Artist Statement: 2D art final

My art is a reflection of who I am. In most of my pieces, I have a running theme of my experiences in life, or things that I have felt. I like to try to put myself into my art, whether anyone can see that or not. My art is for me to understand, and a way to get out my emotions. I put voice into my art in many ways. One way I like to do this is with the focal point of a piece. I enjoy making the center of interest something that has meaning to me, but might not have any to others. I also like to use color scheme to portray my emotion. If I am drawing something that reminds me of a tough time, I might use just graphite. For a happy memory, I may use different forms of color like colored pencils or paint. I always have an inspiration for my work. In the very beginning of the year, we did a bag study where we drew a paper bag with some added element of voice. I used a CD that my dad and I always used to listen to in the car hike running errands. He stayed at home instead of my mom, so he is a large part of my life, and I showed him through the CD. I also had a fall risk bracelet from a visit I had to take to the hospital last summer. I stayed in the hospital for a week, and my mom stayed the whole time. She was represented by the bracelet. I put private moments in all of my art, for me. My art is about expressing myself in ways that make others think about the person behind the piece.

Watercolor landscape

This was the last assignment I did this year, a watercolor of some trees during sunset. I do like the piece; though it is not quite what I expected, I do like it very much. I think that was a decent way to end the year.

Finished Calligraphy

For me, calligraphy was the best and worst assignment this year. I loved doing it, it was calming forming each letter, part by part. It was also stressful, as this was one piece, and I had dozens of ideas. In the end, I went for a quote from Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater. I originally wanted to do a different quote from the same book, but it was too long to try more than once, and I messed it up the first time. I am very happy with how it turned out, as well as the picture I drew. It fits the quote in terms of humanity making the same mistakes time and time again. I decided to draw an hourglass with the bottom being a nice colorful civilization being covered by the sand from the top. I want to continue doing calligraphy in my spare time.
